Brenners Artist in Residence 2009
05-22-2009
Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa and Baden-Baden's Staatliche Kunsthalle (State Art Gallery) introduced the "Brenners Artist in Residence" scholarship in 2004 reflecting future-oriented cooperation. Each year in accordance with a proposal put forward by Baden-Baden's Staatliche Kunsthalle an artist is chosen to reside for a month at Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa in order to get to know the town and its cultural facilities. Afterwards or even during the stay itself the Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden stages an exhibition for the invited artist. This working scholarship is intended to foster international artists, who are standing at the beginning of their career.
The aim of the scholarship is to reassess the considerable, in part hidden cultural reserves possessed by Baden-Baden, in a different light. Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa and the Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden are two houses, renowned at international level in their respective fields, neighbours on the Lichtentaler Allee, who represent ideal partners for such a cooperative arrangement. Thanks to this project generously sponsored by Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa new, sophisticated dimensions are opened up allowing international artists to encounter this town, its history and culture, but first and foremost the people in Baden-Baden.
This year artists have been selected, whose works have been on display at the 7 x 14 exhibition at Baden-Baden's Staatliche Kunsthalle.
With reference to the legendary 14 mal 14 series of exhibitions dating back to the years 1968 to 1973 the Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden is staging the 7 x 14 exhibition on the occasion of its 100th anniversary.
From April 7th till July 12th, 2009, young artists have been invited to make use of the facilities at the Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden each for a period of 14 days. Their context-related space installations are created in the presence of the public and are intended to provide the onlookers with a living forum for coming to terms with the topical art scene. At 14-day intervals the exhibitions are set up from Tuesday to Friday and opened on Friday evening so that the actual exhibition in each case runs for 10 days. The Kunsthalle only remains closed on Mondays. With Michael Beutler, the Projektraum Silberkuppe, Kalin Lindena, Friedrich Kunath, Dirk Bell, Alex Müller/Shannon Bool and Henning Bohl - we are displaying artists, who find themselves embarking on their career - in similar fashion to 14 mal 14.
